MIDWESTERN GOLD BICYCLE TOUR
The Harvest Ride to the Island --- Sept. 15 - 20, 2008

The tour begins at the end, product that is, at the Capital Brewery in Middleton, Wis., the home of Island Wheat Ale. The route will wind its way northeast through the heart of Wisconsin's fertile farmland, hug the Lake Michigan shoreline, cruise the back roads of beautiful Door County and converge to board the 3 p.m. Washington Island Ferry five glorious days later. The riders will join the Capital Brewery beer truck on the ferry and arrive as one big convoy on Washington Island to kick off the Wheat Harvest Festival held at the historic Washington Hotel, Restaurant & Culinary School. The festival celebrates the farms, families and communities that have grown Washington Island wheat for generations and inspired the creation of Island Wheat Ale.

We will be touring during Wisconsin's season of "gold" as ripened grain wave heartily in the fields. The tour will celebrate the bounty of harvest with visits to family farms and businesses who work hard to provide healthy food for our tables using organic and sustainable farming methods. The tour will also feature several gourmet meals using locally grown food including a good old fashioned Door County fish boil. Overnight accommodations will be in area hotels.

The overnights are:
Beaver Dam, Port Washington, Two Rivers, Sturgeon Bay and Washington Island.
